1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer I am one of those women (June 2023). I made the decision to have a lumpectomy to remove 2 tumors and 3 lymph nodes (one of which was also positive) and had surgery in September 2023. After I healed from surgery, next step was the treatment plan, my oncologist recommended chemo, radiation & hormone therapy. After doing my research and reviewing the statistics I chose not to do chemo but had 19 sessions of radiation. I have been in remission for 3 years and made the decision to not continue with the aromatase inhibitors/hormone suppression therapy. It's not a path I ever thought I would be on, but it has led me to learn more about myself and to try my best to be of service to others going through cancer treatments.
Through my journey I was able to volunteer with the non-profit Hope Lives in Fort Collins and am so grateful to have recently been hired as the Events Coordinator. I will not be "participating" in the walk this year, but I will be there to cheer you on and encourage you to join us, walk virtually from wherever works for you or make a donation if you are able. I truly appreciate your support through my own journey and the money we raise helps our clients find comfort through the services we help provide (massage, acupuncture, house cleaning etc.) Get those mammograms and do your self exams!
